Officer struck from behind by another car

A Massachusetts state trooper suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was struck by an alleged drunken driver on Route 1 in Saugus.

Police said in a statement that the 27-year-old trooper was conducting a traffic stop in the southbound lanes just after 1 a.m. Friday. The trooper was still in his cruiser when it was struck from behind by another car.

The trooper reported neck and back pain and was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. The cruiser sustained heavy rear end damage.

Police said the 35-year-old driver of the car that hit the cruiser was determined to be operating under the influence of alcohol.
