Two from NH die in Mass. crash

MERRIMAC – A New Hampshire man and woman died this morning of injuries suffered in a crash early Friday morning on Route 495 South.

According to a press release issued by Massachusetts State Police, a 2005 Chrysler Sebring operated by Vanessa A. Knight, 27, of East Hampstead, N.H., was traveling south on Route 495 when just after 1:30 a.m. Friday the car veered off the road, rolled over and crashed into a tree.

Passenger George E. Schena, 27, of Plaistow died at the scene. Knight was taken to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport where she was later pronounced dead.

A third person in the car, who police did not identify in the press release, was seriously injured but is expected to survive. That passenger also was taken to the Newburyport hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by state police, Troop A, with the assistance of state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted by Merrimac Police and Fire and Rescue.

The left lane of Route 495 south was closed for about three hours during the rescue operation and crash investigation.
