Two MBTA police officers have been sent to area hospitals after their motorcycles were struck by a car.
The officers were allegedly hit by a car in East Boston on Friday morning, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.
WHDH’s Byron Barnett reports that Boston Police believe a woman was making a left U-turn from the far right lane as the officers passed her in left lane. Her car appears to have sustained signficant damage to its front left side:
One officer, identified by The Boston Globe as Lucas Sayers, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where the 37-year-old was treated for multiple injuries, including a broken leg which will require surgery, Pesaturo told Boston.com.
The other officer, Brendan Skerry, 29, was taken to Boston Medical Center. He was released several hours later, Pesaturo said.
Charges are pending the outcome of an invesigation into the accident.
Correction: An earlier version of this story referenced an NECN report that said “one person is in custody.” According to a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department, no one was taken into custody for the accident.
