Two men, one of which was celebrating his birthday Tuesday, were seriously injured during an early morning rollover crash in Brockton, The Enterprise reported.
The one-car crash happened at the intersection of Summer and Grove streets in Brockton about 1:41 a.m.
The driver, Carl Brown, 21, of Abington, whose birthday is today, was driving drunk and speeding at the time of the crash, police said.
Brown was driving down Crescent Street when he attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control of the car and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Crescent and Summer streets, Brockton Police Lt. Kenneth LeGrice said.
Brown and his passenger, Anthony Hodges, 22, of Brockton, were both ejected from the vehicle during the crash and suffered life threatening injuries, LeGrice said.
Brown’s white sedan came to a stop on its side in the middle of the intersection.
Both men were taken to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital before being transferred to hospitals elsewhere, LeGrice said.
The intersection of Grove and Summer streets, on the south side of the city, was blocked off while officials investigated the scene and worked to tow the vehicle.
Plymouth County BCI and the State Police crash reconstruction team assisted with the investigation.
Brown was cited for drunken driving resulting in severe injuries, speeding and marked lanes violation. He will be issued a summons to appear in court.
