REVERE — Two Swampscott men died Friday when their car smashed into a home on Route 1A in Revere, officials said.
The crash was reported at 6:57 a.m. at 936 North Shore Road, also known as Route 1A.
Authorities said the vehicle was traveling northbound and speed may have been a factor.
One of the car’s occupants, a 20-year-old man, was taken to Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, where he died of his injuries.
A second occupant, 19, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to Lieutenant Detective Amy O’Hara, a Revere police spokeswoman. That man, who is believed to have been driving, died Friday night, according to Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney’s office.
Both victims have been tentatively identified, prosecutors said, but officials did not release their names Friday. The occupants of the car were extricated using hydraulic tools, according to the Revere Fire Department.
No one was inside the house at the time, and the structure had relatively minor damage, officials said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
