Warwick man killed in car crash

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police in Warwick are trying to figure out why a man driving on a highway left the road and struck several tree, suffering fatal injuries.

Authorities say the 54-year-old man was driving south of Lambert Lind Highway near the Warwick Mall when he crashed into trees located on traffic islands shortly after midnight Saturday.

He was taken to Kent Hospital, where physicians later pronounced him dead.

Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the crash, including if speed and alcohol were factors. Authorities ask anyone with information related to the incident to contact police in Warwick.

Authorities say the victim lived in Warwick, but they were withholding the name his family had not been notified.
