A West Barnstable man has died and another was seriously injured following a car accident in which both occupants were ejected from their vehicle on Route 495 in Mansfield on Monday morning, police said.
Gary Ostrom, 53, and Joshua Ostrom, 19, were traveling northbound on Route 495, by exit 11, in Mansfield when the Ford pickup truck skidded off the road and rolled over the median strip, ejecting both occupants.
State Police responded to the crash at approximately 6:28 a.m.
Route 495 was closed to accommodate a medical helicopter which transported Joshua, the passenger of the pickup truck, to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Gary, the operator, was transported to Sturdy Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
At the time of the crash, a State Trooper was on the southbound side of Route 495 investigating another car crash that was caused by icy conditions.
The trooper’s unoccupied cruiser was struck by the rolling pickup truck after the victims were ejected.
State Police have no further information on the condition of the second victim.
The facts and circumstances of the crash, including whether icy road conditions were a contributing factor, remain under investigation by State Police.
