The 7-year-old boy fatally injured Monday when struck by a dump truck as he rode his bicycle in the city’s north side has been identified as Michael Ryan, according to a statement issued by the office of Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastroianni.
Ryan was pinned under the large truck in the 3:36 p.m. accident in the area of Montgomery, Prospect and Crown streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Mastroianni’s statement, the preliminary investigation shows Ryan was riding his bicycle near the intersection when he was struck by the front end of the truck.
The truck is owned by Moose Meadow Brook Excavation. The driver was not identified.
The preliminary investigation shows the driver of the truck attempted evasive measures before contact was made.
The investigation is continuing by Massachusetts State Police with assistance from Westfield police and Mastroianni’s office.
No charges have been filed against the driver, the release said.
