Westfield woman died after crash on Rt. 20

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 68-year-old Westfield woman died at Baystate Noble Hospital after her car crashed into a tree on Russell Road in Westfield Friday night.

Westfield Police Sgt. Mike Kane told 22News EMS personnel freed the victim from the wreckage and rushed her to Baystate Noble where she died.

Sgt. Kane said the woman’s car crossed the center line on Russell Road, Route 20, and hit a tree on the other side near Tekoa Country Club, just before 6:15 p.m. Friday.

A two-mile stretch of Russell Road was closed for two hours while the Westfield Police Traffic Bureau conducted their investigation. The road reopened at about 8:15 Friday night.

Sgt. Kane said the accident is under investigation by the Westfield Police Traffic Bureau and the Hampden County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Police have not released her identity.
