Woman, 86, dies in single-car crash in Dover

An 86-year-old Westwood woman died in a one-car crash in Dover Wednesday morning, officials said.

The crash occurred at 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Main and Haven streets. The vehicle hit a tree and a stone wall and burst into flames, ending up on the lawn at 29 Main St., police said in a statement.

A passerby had removed the woman from the car before rescuers arrived. She was taken to the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, officials said.

The woman was driving north on Main Street when the crash occurred, an initial investigation found. There were no passengers in her car.

Dover police are investigating the accident, along with the Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk County district attorney’s office.

Main Street was closed for a time but reopened at about 2 p.m., according to a tweet from Dover police. Haven Street was still closed at 3:45 p.m., police said.
