WORCESTER – A passenger involved in an all-terrain vehicle accident two weeks ago died Sunday, and the person at the wheel has been charged with driving to endanger.
The passenger, Paola Alba, 23, of Worcester, succumbed to her injuries from the Aug. 19 accident on Goddard Memorial Drive. The ATV driver – Luis Pena, 24, of Worcester – has been charged with driving to endanger (negligence), driving at a speed greater than reasonable, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and driving an unregistered vehicle. He suffered injuries to his arm that were not life-threatening, police said.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Aug. 19, police responded to the crash near 51 Goddard Memorial Drive and found Ms. Alba unresponsive. She had a severe head injury. She remained hospitalized before passing away at 1:50 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the ATV riders were traveling east on Goddard Memorial Drive when their vehicle flipped five or six times. Witnesses said a group of dirt bike and ATV riders were traveling along and “doing wheelies” around that time while swerving on the road. The other ATV riders fled after witnessing the crash, police said.
Police said Tuesday their investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
