Woman killed in Route 20 wreck

AUBURN —  A 75-year-old Leicester woman was killed just before noon today when her car was hit head-on by a truck on Route 20 near the Worcester line.

According to Detective Sgt.Jeffrey A. Lourie , it appears a pickup truck carrying firewood crossed the center line and hit a Buick Century, killing the car’s driver.

The woman’s name is being withheld by police until her family is notified.

The truck, a Dodge Ram cab with a dump body, was driven by 71-year-old Edward O. Laflamme of 11 Wilson Road, Millbury. He was not injured, police said.

Sgt. Laurie said it appears the Buick was heading east on Route 20 in the travel lane and the truck was heading west on Route 20 when it crossed the yellow lines and struck the woman’s car near 141 Washington St.

There was no immediate indication as to what caused the crash, which remains under investigation by Auburn Police Officer Jason Miglionico and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction Team.
