Woman struck, killed by duck boat in downtown Boston

BOSTON — A 29-year-old woman has died after the scooter she was driving was struck by an amphibious sightseeing vehicle in downtown Boston.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday right near public park Boston Common.

A city police department spokeswoman said the woman and her male passenger were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where the woman died from her injuries. The passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The spokeswoman says there were about 30 passengers on the vessel, known as a duck boat, when the crash happened. There were no other injuries.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said both the scooter driver and passenger were wearing helmets, CBS Boston reports.

A Boston Duck Tours spokesperson said the company’s CEO went to the scene of the crash.

“Obviously our hearts go out to the victim and her family,” the company said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

No further details were immediately available.
