WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A man is dead following an accident at a road salt facility in Westfield.
Westfield Police Captain Michael McCabe says emergency crews were called to the Cargill salt facility on Union Street around 10:49 a.m. Wednesday for what is being called an industrial accident.
No other details about the incident were immediately released.
McCabe adds that 33-year-old Robert Crossetti of Westfield was killed in the accident.
Cargill spokesperson Mark Klein says that the facility is leased by Cargill to a third party. He adds that the company has spoken briefly with the lessee, “but their focus at that time was working with authorities” and calls the incident is “truly a sad day in Westfield.”
The case remains under investigation by Westfield Police, Mass. State Police, and OSHA.
