Carver man killed in two-car crash on Route 495 in Middleboro

State Police are investigating a Thursday night car crash on Route 495 in Middleboro that killed a Carver man.

At 11:10 p.m  troopers from the State Police Barracks in Middleborough responded to a two-car crash on Route 495 southbound, north of Exit 2, in Middleborough. The crash resulted in one fatality.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Adam LeBlanc indicates that both vehicles were travelling southbound on Route 495 when, for reasons still under investigation, a 2004 Ford F-250 left the road and come in contact with a tree. The operator, George Victoria, 50, of Carver was pronounced deceased on-scene.

A second vehicle was also involved in the crash but it has yet to be determined whether the vehicles collided. What role the second vehicle played in the crash is part of the ongoing investigation. The operator of the second vehicle, a 51-year-old Westborough man, was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Middleborough Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The left lane of Route 495 southbound was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours during the rescue operation and crash investigation.
