WALPOLE — A 20-year-old Danvers man was killed and another was seriously injured in an early morning car accident Wednesday on I-95 in Walpole.
State police said the crash happened near exit 10 at about 1:45 a.m.
Jacob Whitman, 20, of Danvers, was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber sports utility vehicle northbound on the highway when he somehow lost control, said Trooper Michael Tryon.
The SUV rolled over several times and Whitman, along with his passenger, Kevin McCarthy, also 20 and from Danvers, were ejected from the truck, according to state police.
McCarthy was hit by two passing cars after being thrown out of the SUV, said Police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Whitman, was taken to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.
As of Thursday afternoon, Whitman was being treated in the surgical intensive care unit of Boston Medical Center in serious condition, according to hospital workers.
State police said they are investigating what caused the crash and that no other information is available at this time.
Walpole firefighters and the state Highway Division assisted state police at the scene of the accident.
