Man killed in South Berwick golf cart crash identified

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine —Police have identified the man killed in a golf cart accident in South Berwick on Wednesday.

South Berwick police said Eric Sullivan, 27, of Stoughton, Massachusetts, died when he was thrown from the golf cart at the Links at Outlook Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the driver of the cart lost control on a long, steep hill on the 14th hole and both men were ejected.

Sullivan was a passenger in the golf cart.

The cart landed on Sullivan’s head, South Berwick Police Chief Dana LaJoie said.

They were among a group of 10 to 13 people from Massachusetts playing golf.

Both the driver and the Sullivan had blood drawn to determine blood alcohol content, Lajoie said.

The driver was treated for injuries at the golf course, the Links at Outlook, South Berwick police said in a release. The crash was reported at 2:50 p.m.

The South Berwick Police Department, Berwick police and the Maine Warden Service responded to the call,  Lajoie said.

Even though Lajoie said it appeared the crash occurred in South Berwick, South Berwick police are working with Berwick police on the investigation because investigators were not certain of the exact location of the fatality.
