Merrimack, Epping crashes leave two dead

MERRIMACK, N.H. —A driver was arrested for driving under the influence after a passenger in his car was killed in a crash.

The accident happened on the Everett Turnpike at the Bedford-Merrimack town line Friday night, just south of the Bedford tollbooth.

Emergency crews said three cars were involved in the crash in the northbound lane.

According to officials, a Mitsubishi driven by Nghia Huynh, 37, of Nashua was traveling southbound when he lost control, striking the center median concrete barrier. Huynh’s car then rolled over into the northbound travel lane.

At the same time, a Hyundai Sonata driven by Bernd Elsner, was traveling northbound struck the Mitsubishi.

A third car, driven by Patricia Poliquin, 55 of Bradford, then struck the Hyundai.

Police say the impact from the Hyundai caused fatal injuries to an unidentified young male passenger of the Mitsubishi., who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both Huynh and Poliquin were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.

Huynh was arrested at the hospital and charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

Route 125 crash

In Epping, another crash on Friday night left one dead.

Police said several vehicles were involved in the crash just north of N. River Road at 7:20 p.m. One vehicle crossed the center lane, crashing head-on with another car.

Route 125 has been closed since the crash as police investigate.

Police from several towns responded to help with the road closure and investigation.
