Officials in Cambridge, Massachusetts, are looking closely at the intersection where a bicyclist collided with a truck and later died Thursday.
A memorial is growing at Inman Square for the bicyclist who died, identified by the Middlesex County DA’s Office as 27-year-old Amanda Phillips of Cambridge.
She was on her bike when she collided with a dump truck Thursday afternoon. She died from her injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Massachusetts State Police say she entered the roadway from the sidewalk. As she went in the roadway the driver of a parked Jeep opened the door.
Phillips hit the door, which pushed her into the travel, when she collided with the dump truck.
City records show there have been close to 30 accidents in the intersection over the past few years.
A city traffic official tells us there have been no fatalities.
A study is underway to look at how to make the intersection safer.
The drivers of the dump truck and Jeep remained on scene and are cooperating with police.
It’s unclear if any citations or charges will be filed.
