One person has died following a crash Friday along North King Street in Northampton.
Northampton Deputy Fire Chief Jon Davine says that emergency crews were called out to a report of an two car accident just before 12 noon Friday.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, which was near the intersection of Elm Street, one person had to be extricated from one of the cars using the Jaws of Life.
Northwestern First Assistant District Attorney Steve Gagne says that one of the cars, driven by an 84-year-old man from Westfield, sustained heavy damage on the driver’s side after it was struck by the front of a pick-up truck.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center.
Gagne explains that the man from Westfield, whose name has not yet been released, has died from his injuries. The other driver is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by Northampton Police and State Troopers assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.
