A late night car accident leaves one person dead and three other seriously injured.
According to the Massachusetts State Police in Dartmouth, the crash happened Friday night shortly before 11 o’clock on 195 West near Exit 2 in Rehoboth. That is where police say the two cars collided, causing lanes to close down for three hours.
In a report released by the State Police, a car driven by 52-year-old Antonio Leitao of Warren was speeding when he crashed into the car of 51-year-old James Serra of Bellingham.
Police say Leitao’s car spun around several times before striking a tree.
Serra’s car rolled over multiple times before coming to rest on the side of the road.
Leitao and his passenger, 19-year-old Kyle Leitao were transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. Both are listed in critical condition. Mr. Serra was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
A passenger riding in Serra’s car, 74-year-old William Gokey, of Mendon, was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers from Swansea and Rehoboth Police and Fire Departments, along with the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services all assisted at the scene.
The crash investigation is still on going.
