According to Upton Police Chief Michael Bradley, Jr., a 2007 Toyota Sequoia driven by Thomas Burns, 41, of Milford, crossed the center lane at 44 Milford St. and struck a 2011 Ford Escape traveling in the opposite direction.
Burns, the lone occupant in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center along with all four occupants of the other vehicle.
He is being charged with operating under the influence of liquor, Bradley said.
Two minor children and the 31-year-old Upton man operating the Escape were transported to UMass, and a woman also in the vehicle “suffered serious injuries” and had to be extricated, Bradley said.
The crash is under investigation by the Upton Police Department and the Central Mass. Law Enforcement Council Collision Reconstruction Team, Bradley said.
The Hopedale Fire Department and Milford Police Department assisted the Upton Police Department at the scene.
