Pedestrian struck and killed by car on Interstate-495 in Franklin

FRANKLIN – A 41-year-old man was struck and killed while walking on Interstate-495 early Sunday morning.

The pedestrian was identified as Anthony Santucci, of Franklin. He died at the scene of the accident, Massachusetts State Policeofficials said.

The man was in the middle travel lane at about 12:22 a.m., Sunday when he was struck by the driver of a 2011 Honda. The accident happened in the southbound lanes just north of Exit 17 in Franklin, Police said.

The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Cumberland, Rhode Island, stayed at the scene of the crash. No charges have been filed against her at this time, police said.

The right and middle lanes of the highway were closed for more than three hours while police cleared the accident and collected evidence. It was reopened just before 4 a.m., police said.

The crash is under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The investigation will decide if charges should be filed against the driver, police said.

The Franklin Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services and Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted the State Police at the accident, police said.
