Police investigating crash that seriously injured cyclist

Police are investigating a crash between a car and cyclist Saturday on Main Street that seriously injured a Southborough man, Lt. Sean James said.

John Kutch, 52, was still at UMass Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon, a hospital worker confirmed. The worker said he could not provide Kutch’s status.

James said Kutch sustained serious upper body injuries following a crash that happened at about 4 p.m. Saturday.

Kutch was biking eastbound on Main Street approaching Middle Road when he was hit by a 2007 Pontiac sedan taking a left turn onto Middle Road, James said.

Kutch hit the front of the car and was thrown onto the windshield before landing on the ground, James said. He was wearing a helmet, James said.

The car was driven by 25-year-old Southborough man, James said. The man did not show any signs of being impaired, he said.

James said police have at least one witness to the crash and are still investigating to determine whether charges will be filed.

James said that because of the nature of the injuries, an accident reconstruction team from the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council was called to assist in the investigation.

Kutch was conscious at the scene of the crash, James said, and was taken to UMass Memorial in Worcester via ambulance.
