A Rhode Island police officer who just finished his night shift and was driving home was struck and killed early Monday when a car traveling the wrong way crashed head-on into his car.
A black Toyota Camry, driven by Dejae T. Pizarro, 23, of Bedford, Massachusetts, was traveling north in the high speed lane of Interstate 95 south just after midnight, police said.
Pizarro’s vehicle struck a white Dodge Charger head on. The driver the Dodge was identified as Ryan J. Bourque, 24, of Coventry, Rhode Island.
Bourque, a patrolman with the Jamestown Police Department, had just completed his shift and was traveling to his home.
Bourque and Pizarro died in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
