Recall: Honda and Isuzu vehicles – Rear suspension problem

Honda is recalling 1998-2002 Passports and Isuzu is recalling certain 1998-2002 Rodeos and 2002 Axioms due to a problem with corrosion in the rear suspension. Vehicles that have been exposed to corrosive materials for road de-icing may have excessive corrosion in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket. If this occurs, the bracket can become detached from the frame and affect handling, potentially leading to a crash.

This issue only affects vehicles in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

Dealers will inspect the rear suspension for corrosion. If little or no corrosion is found, vehicles will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. For those vehicles that have damage that affected the frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. If damage is so severe, Isuzu and Honda will develop a remedy. The remedy will be free for vehicles 10 years of age and less, but for those over 10 years old, owners have 12 months after notification to bring the vehicle to a dealer for repair.
