State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Andover

Massachusetts state troopers from the Andover Barracks late last night responded to a single-car crash into the woods off the southbound side of Route 125 that caused fatal injuries to the driver.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John M. Ragosa indicates that a 2007 Infiniti sedan was operating erratically at an excessive speed on Route 125 near Gould Road when its driver lost control and rolled into the woods off the side of the road.

The driver and lone occupant of the Infinity, Chiho Chao, 29, of North Andover, was transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The facts and circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police, with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed was a probable factor in the crash and that no other vehicles were involved.

One lane of Route 125 southbound was closed for approximately 90 minutes to accommodate the rescue response and crash investigation. State troopers were assisted at the scene by Andover and Wilmington Police and the Andover Fire and Rescue Department.
