NEEDHAM – A Massachusetts State Police trooper escorting a funeral procession was injured when his cruiser was struck by a car on Route 128 on Friday, police said.
The trooper, a sergeant whose name was not released, suffered injuries to his upper and lower body and was taken to Beth Israel-Needham Hospital for treatment. The injuries were not considered life threatening and the trooper was expected to be released from the hospital on Friday night, police said.
The trooper’s marked cruiser was struck by a 2006 Audi that was southbound on Route 128 near an Interstate 135 exit ramp.
The driver of the Audi, a 64-year-old Framingham man whose name was not released, apparently was uninjured.
Police said no charges have been filed in the incident, which remains under investigation.
