SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – One person is in custody this morning after he lead police on a chase spanning three cities, ending in an accident on the South End Bridge.
According to State Police in Springfield, the chase began when a State Trooper attempted to pull over the driver for an equipment malfunction on Interstate 291. The driver refused to pull over, and instead fled, getting on I-91 and heading toward West Springfield.
The chase would continue as the driver exited the highway, leading police onto Riverdale Street, then onto Route 5, before moving onto city streets at the North End Bridge rotary. From there, he lead police through West Springfield on Memorial Drive, before getting back onto Route 5, and getting onto Route 57 in Agawam.
The chase would end when the driver, having doubled back onto Route 57 toward Springfield, lost control of the vehicle on the South End Bridge, and crashed.
The driver was arrested at the scene and will face multiple motor vehicle charges. Two passengers were not arrested, one suffered minor injuries to his hand.
Police are not yet releasing the identity of the driver, but did say he has an outstanding warrant in New York State.
